SPOT OPENING NIGHT: CLASSICAL MUSIC MEETS ROCK, ELECTRONICA AND POP
ANNE-KATRINE BAK

Oh Land's music will be accompanied by classical musicians at the SPOT Opening Night event at The Concert Hall.
Oh Land and When Saints Go Machine will perform at SPOT Opening Night at the Concert Hall Aarhus – both acts will have classical musicians joining them on stage. Additionally, 120 people will be on stage, when rock band Ave performs with Odense Symphony Orchestra and Herning Boys Choir.

The SPOT Opening Night at The Concert Hall is going to be a special event: Joining the previously mentioned Ave, who are performing with Odense Symphony Orchestra and Herning Boys Choir are songstress Oh Land and electro pop band When Saints Go Machine. Both acts will perform individual sets, where their songs will be accompanied by classical musicians.

Oh Land, who will actually play twice during the festival, is going to perform music by Maurice Ravel as well as her own songs.

-There is, of course, a massive work load, though when it comes to my own music it's already very orchestra-like. I've been a ballet child and I grew up in a house with lots of classical music. So it's not foreign to me at all. On the contrary. I know the language and the form, says Nanna Øland aka Oh Land.

Just like Oh Land, When Saints Go Machine will also perform at SPOT complemented by classical musicians – and this is no coincidence. On their upcoming début album, the band has incorporated strings to their electro pop sound.

- On the album, we've used strings as an active participant in the writing process, says When Saints Go Machine vocalist Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild.

Already incorporating strings on the upcoming début album, When Saints Go Machine will extend the use of classical musicians on May 21st.
On mixing genres
All of the participating musicians are looking forward to an evening of genre-mixing and boundary breaking.

Oh Land: -Mixing genres is trendy right now. I, for one, don't experience any boundaries and I don't feel like limiting myself.

Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild, When Saints Go Machine: - We are inspired by everything. There's no wall. The time is ripe for using every genre as inspiration. We don't have any dogmas.

Michael R. Jacobsen, Ave: - I respect that the classical world might have some boundaries, though I don't feel restricted and I certainly don't feel the need to follow them. I can't create music with those kinds of restrictions – they don't exist in my world. For me, it's about deconstructing and constructing - together!
