SPOT On Denmark, organized by ROSA – The Danish Rock Council and MXD – Music Export Denmark is compiled by several on-day festivals across Europe, which originates from the Aarhus-based SPOT Festival. These events, which follow-up on the SPOT Festival, consists among others of the Danish night at Popkomm, and is also backed by events in France and the Benelux countries, including Brussels this Friday.

Tone, One-Eyed Mule, Said The Shark and Slaraffenland all played at the AB Club in Brussels. In addition to this, Bodebrixen played two very festive gigs at the nearby and crowded Café Central, while As In Rebekkamaria, with her two-man DJ-setup, closed the afterparty at around two in the morning in front of a large congregation of Danes, a lot of Belgians and a larger Italian delegation.

- We had 120 industry people inside, and an additional audience of 120, all of whom either bought or won their tickets in radio or newspaper competitions, Christian Buhl, ROSA and MXD's event organizer in Brussels, explains.

This is the second time in a row that the SPOT On Denmark event is being held in Brussels and on top of last years positive attendance, Christian Buhl marks a packed house as a new success, which proves that the concept is much more than a quick one-off affair.

- Success means that the most important, not necessarily the biggest, industry people are here: those who work with international music. Two other intermediate aims are to enlist both audience and the press. The most important people are here, so we are very satisfied, Christian Buhl adds.

- The industry is now aware of the Danish night. If we were to develop it further, we should create a setup that would include getting more audience participation, Christian Buhl concludes, while also establishing the fact that all tickets on sale had been sold.

In connection with the SPOT On Denmark night, One Eyed-Mule closed a deal with Debonair Music regarding distribution, promotion and booking in the Benelux countries. In addition to this, both Bodebixen and Said The Shark had positive talks with industry people from the area. Slaffenland are just of their tour in Holland, Belgian and France, while As In Rebakkamaria is currently on tour in Central Europe.

The concept behind the event is that a Belgian jury picks the Danish bands who play SPOT On Denmark, in order to create a pull effect. The purpose is to fertilize the ground for Danish acts and create contacts, which to a extent should help exports of Danish releases and concerts in the area. As for the bands, importance lies in creating a coherence between record releases, concerts, press and the audience. Murder's Benelux breakthrough last year is a glorious example of rock export in connection with the SPOT Festival and SPOT On Denmark.
